Teeth Cleaning for Dogs and Cats

When was the last time your dog or cat had a professional dental exam and cleaning? If it's been more than a year, then we highly recommend you have this done by our veterinarian as soon as possible. Just like in humans, routine teeth cleaning and exams are extremely important as a form of preventative care. Without these cleanings and exams, it is highly likely that your pet will suffer from painful tooth decay, gum disease, and even permanent tooth loss that can make eating hard foods difficult and even painful for your pet. By having cleanings done by our experienced veterinary team, we can remove plaque and another build-up from your pet's teeth and even below the gum line to reduce the risk of infection and gum disease. As needed, we can also perform any number of dental procedures in our office, such as dental surgery, extractions, X-rays, and fillings.

At-Home Pet Dental Care Tips

In addition to having your pet's teeth examined and cleaned regularly in our office, there are steps you can take to protect your pet's dental and oral health at home. For starters, if you aren't doing so already, now is a great time to start brushing your pet's teeth. You can find specialized toothbrushes and toothpaste made for use in dogs and cats at your local pet supply store. Furthermore, there are some great dental treats and toys that you can buy and give to your pet that will help to clean the teeth and gums every time your pet uses them.

In addition to brushing your pet's teeth and giving them dental treats and toys, consider picking up a dental water additive at your local pet store. This is another product that you can use to fight off bad breath and help to keep your pet's teeth and mouth cleaner in between dental appointments. You simply put a small amount (usually about a tablespoon) of the additive into your pet's water. The additive itself is completely flavorless and odorless, so your pet won't even notice that they are drinking it! Still, it can make a big impact on your pet's oral health.
